The corporate infrastructure revolution: get it together ... or watch the competition take you apart

Article Abstract:

A number of large business firms are swiftly moving towards integrating their non-core, and formerly separate support functions so as to increase organizational learning and facilitate communication. The need for adequate and prompt customer response has forced many companies to integrate many of their support functions, so that a 'shared service' quality is formed. This integration results in higher value, and lower costs of services that are attuned to market demands in a competitive environment. The integration not only involves the physical infrastructure but the information and the communication infrastructure as well.
