The employment trade-off gap closes

Article Abstract:

Many local authorities are not keen to allow the construction of new warehouses in their area as they offer few new jobs and the work is mostly unskilled. Cadbury's have a storage warehouse of 300,000 sq ft yet employ only 30 workers. Some councils are demanding a certain number of workers to the amount of space which is developed. Distribution companies often have to pay high wages to counteract competition for workers in some areas, such as the South East. But the overall cost of wages, due to the low number of workers, is often not seen as an important factor for distributors.

Strategic alliances

Article Abstract:

Changes in the status of many building societies in the UK has not necessarily meant that they have rationalized their buildings and customer services. Most of the societies maintain that it is very important to retain a presence in the high street and some, such as the Nationwide, would prefer to be situated in prime retail areas. Other societies are looking to extend their operations into new areas such as hospitals and cinemas and most societies favour being situated in large supermarkets. Building societies are excluded from retail areas in some towns and cities in the UK.
