Urban regeneration must provide jobs and buildings

Article Abstract:

Many housing regeneration projects which have been undertaken in the UK have failed to create long-term employment by not exploiting the business opportunities which were available, according to a report based on research carried out by the Training and Employment Research Unit at Glasgow University. The market for repair and maintenance work has remained relatively undeveloped, even though a lot of business could have been created, especially in the case of housing estates with stock transfer to other social landlords.

House-price increases less than incomes, says guide

Article Abstract:

House prices will grow by around 5% a year until 1998, with price growth not likely to be greater than the growth in nominal incomes. On a long-term basis, the link between house prices and incomes has been one of the main indicators of probable price trends. There will still be variations in house price growth between regions, but these will be less marked than in the past.
