VAT: the changes

Article Abstract:

The UK Nov 1994 budget set out changes in value added tax (VAT) which affect the real estate industry. Non residential real estate is affected in the changes which include a new type of collective registration for VAT for real estate which is co-owned. UK VAT rules on real estate are unduly complicated and some simplifications have been made in the Nov 1994 budget, but difficulties have also been introduced. Details of the changes have yet to be announced.

Article Abstract:

Forecasting is extremely important to the property market although there have been major criticism of statistical techniques. Formal forecasting techniques do not help to develop proper analysis of risk, although they can identify regularities in property market behaviour patterns. There needs to be a structured strategy to demand analysis, incorporated into formal methods of forecasting in the property market.
