Labor considerations in site selection: a case study

Article Abstract:

Effective site selection for a business involves analysis of the transport system, workforce potential and location amenities. Chase Manhattan Bank NA developed a detailed study to identify a location that met the needs and specifications of its Western Credit Card Division. The study of transport patterns and systems, with subsequent research into area development potentials, workforce availability and possible competitors for labor, led to its decision to locate in Tempe, AZ. The research also identified the advantage of available amenities which may help attract labor.

Using customers as a sanity check in the site-selection process

Article Abstract:

The incorporation of customer opinions into the site selection process could help companies identify ideal locations and prevent costly mistakes which arise from location unsuitability to customer's needs. Through a survey, companies seeking to relocate can identify site attractions for customers, including accessibility to major thoroughfares, travel costs, facility operation and maintenance initiatives. The research also allows companies to either reinforce the validity of decisions or enhance a particular site to suit customer requirements.
