Working for the hotel's asset manager: a management company's perspective

Article Abstract:

Managing or owning hotels in the 1990s is difficult because of tight competition and economic uncertainties. Lenders who are forced to take over foreclosed hotels are especially demanding and not too trusting of hotel management firms. There are several stages in the relationship between asset managers and hotel management firms. Throughout these stages, management firms should follow certain rules to keep a harmonious relationship while ensuring good management. Factors to consider in preparing management contracts are presented. The future of hotel management companies in the light of increased competition are likewise discussed.

Considerations beyond the franchising fees

Article Abstract:

An indispensable factor in the assessement and selection of a probable hotel franchise is the franchise fee's structure and amount. Hotel franchise fees amount to 1.5% to 9.6% of room revenues. However, there are several other important considerations aside from the franchise fees which a potential franchisor must remember when assessing different franchise affiliations. Several tips that can serve as a guide when considering the most viable franchise affiliation are presented.
