Differences in assessments of forest adequacy among women in Northern Thailand

Article Abstract:

Women in rural communities of Northern Thailand are aware of the seriousness of forest loss, but are satisfied with current forest-management efforts and do not see a need for tougher forest policies. This was revealed by a survey conducted to determine the level of their environmental knowledge and awareness. Specifically, women's views regarding the gravity of forest loss, the value of the forest for various activities and the effectivity of the government's forest management programs are examined. An overview of the forest environment in Thailand is also provided.

Are tax incentives biased against small firms in Thailand?

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of the effects of tax incentives on business enterprises in Thailand reveals that the current tax policy in the country does not favor small firms. Minimum capital requirements for Board of Investment promotion, export duty exemptions and duty remissions have all been seen as obstacles to the advancement of small firms. It is therefore paramount that the Thai government eliminate minimum capital requirements and include offsetting provisions in the tax code to promote the growth of small businesses.
