Directions in the ethnic politics of Kazakhstan: concessions, compromise, or catastrophe?

Article Abstract:

Ethnic factors significantly affect the delineation of the border between Kazakhstan and Russia. There is a concentration of Russian minorities in the northern provinces of Kazakhstan, which border with Russia and there is concern about these being absorbed by Russia. the history of the region under Tsarist and Stalinist rule shows the arbitrariness of current borders. The treaties between Kazakhstan and Russia do not signify a complete resolution of the issue.
