Does ownership matter? Comparing the performance of public and private enterprises in Ghana

Article Abstract:

A comparison of the performance of public and private enterprises in Ghana shows the unprofitability of public enterprises despite their monopoly powers. The failure of public enterprises to promote economic growth became evident in the late 1980s, a fact that the government addressed by implementing a reform program in 1989. An analysis of firm performance using multivariate methods provides support for the hypothesis linking private ownership to better firm performance, a position that is aligned to that of new institutional economists.

An econometric analysis of money demand in Ghana

Article Abstract:

An econometric analysis of money demand in Ghana was presented. The study provided evidence that Ghanaians consider interest-earning financial assets as attractive alternatives to real money balances, and also support the notion that the nomibal adjustment specification is the appropriate short-term adjustment mechanism for the demand for real M1 balances. Hence, the neoclassical money demand theory is very appropriate for describing the economy of Ghana.

Capsid pests as "cocoa mosquitoes": A study in cash crop infestation and control in Ghana, 1910-1965

Article Abstract:

The Ghana state government successfully worked on the capsid infestation and destruction of cocoa trees in 1960s, though it was bought to attention in 1910. Thus the state and its agencies, such as the Ministry of Agriculture and the Cocoa Research Institute, initiated disease control programs based on scientific research and public policy.
