Dr. Mabuse: Terror and deception of the image
Article Abstract:
Dr. Mabuse, an icon of terror since his first appearance in 1922, has transformed himself from a conventional gangster into a menace to world peace. The free-floating signifying matter called Mabuse is too volatile to name a person or even a system of identifiable ills, but instead refers to immanent and imminent evil that is very much contemporary, such as the economic, political and media structures that enable complicity in a global evil.
