Extinction: Ideologies against indigeneity in the Caribbean

Article Abstract:

Indigenous people from the Caribbean are removed from history altogether, as vanished population and similarly extinctions from Australia, New Zealand and North America are also noted from the nineteenth century works of early anthropologists and newspaper columnists. But surprisingly in the last three decades, communities, organizations, and individuals are announcing their presence as indigenous people in the contemporary Caribbean and its diaspora.

Mothers mild and monstrous: familial metaphors and the Elian Gonzalez case

Article Abstract:

Elian Gonzalez case demonstrates the use of gendered metaphors to advance and defend contradictory nationalistic claims both on the left and on the right-metaphors that ultimately define and reduce women to their reproductive position.

Faust's violence against the mothers

Article Abstract:

Violence against mothers is apparent in Goethe's 'Faust' despite a fascination with the eternal-feminine aspects in women. Examples of coercion and transgression as well as mythological violence go beyond theatrical effect.
