Fantasmes de maternite dans les films de Jacques Demy, Coline Serreau et Francois Truffaut

Article Abstract:

The fantasy of male pregnancy appears in the films of Jacques Demy, Coline Serreau and Francois Truffaut. In the Demy film 'L'Evenement le plus important depuis que l'homme a marche sur la lune' and in the Serreau film 'Trois hommes et un couffin' the fantasy of pregnancy is a comic theme. With Truffaut's 'La nuit americaine' the idea of male pregnancy symbolizes that for Truffaut making a movie is like bearing a child.

Heroes and villains, or Truffaut and the literary pre/text

Article Abstract:

Francois Truffaut's first film adaptation of a literary work, 'Tirez sur le pianiste,' sheds light on his approach to the relationship between film and literature. The novel 'Down There' by David Goodis was used by Truffaut only as a pretext for the film. The film reflects Truffaut's background as a film critic, but he did not continue in the same vein in his later works.
