Foxhunting folkways under fire and the crisis of traditional moral knowledge

Article Abstract:

The state of foxhunting in England's farming heartland of Lincolnshire that was already scarred and economically much reduced by the Mad Cow Disease scare of mid 1990s and the 2001 mass culling to quell a Foot and Mouth Disease epidemic is examined. An overview of what goes in foxhunting, how it operates as a cultural system, and how it relates organically to the people, animals, and environment of the country side is provided.

Hunting for meaning: How characterization reveals standards for behavior in family folklore

Article Abstract:

The purpose is to emphasize the need for characterizations and roles in hunt culture as a way to describe the rules and standards of interviewees. The tradition that will evolve through mixed-gender participation, where hunting direct hunt interaction comes via the knowledge and memories of two men is presented.

Article Abstract:

A historical perspective of the contemporary Dutch folkloristic games in which animals are used as props is reviewed. An overview is presented to indicate how the games have changed through time and a better understanding of the changing role of animals as props is discussed.
