Productivity efficiency and economic growth: East Asia and the rest of the world

Article Abstract:

A comparison of the sources of growth in East Asia with the rest of the world, using a methodology that allows one to decompose total factor productivity (TFP) growth into technical efficiency changes and technological progress is presented. The study uses the varying coefficient stochastic production frontier approach and cross-section data for 45 countries to analyze the sources of economic growth in East Asia and compare them with the rest of the world, particularly OECD countries.
