Homoeroticism and the liberated woman as tropes of subversion: Grete Weil's literary provocations

Article Abstract:

The reasons for lesser success of Grete Weil's novel 'Generationen' are discussed. The novel was not as successful as it's predecessors because of its explicit focus on romantic relationships among women and extreme portrayals of the liberated woman and homosexual desires.

The fundemental thematic relationship between Max Frisch's Mein Name sei Gantenbein and Ingeborg Bachmann's Malina is analyzed. The machinations of patriarchal identity politics lead to erasure of female protagonists from both the novels.
