Layers of security: regional arrangements, the United Nations, and the Japanese-American security treaty

Article Abstract:

East Asian security can only be guaranteed through the combined efforts of the UN, the US, Japan and other countries in the region. Under Chapter 8 of the UN Charter, regional cooperation must be promoted in support of the UN's goal to prevent conflict in East Asia. The US and Japan play a key role in maintaining stability in the region. Their bilateral security agreement, combined with regional cooperation and UN intervention can assure East Asian peace and security.

Newspaper coverage of U.S.-Japan frictions: balance and objectivity

Article Abstract:

Coverage of the US-Japan trade conflict by Japanese and American newspapers is balanced and objective. However, Japanese newspapers tend to present factual stories rather than arguments in analyzing the issue. American newspapers, on the other hand, present arguments for both sides. Both countries are depicted negatively in the news. Japanese and American press tend to blame the US for the prevailing trade dispute.
