La France contemporaine: pourquoi l'etudier et comment l'enseigner?

Article Abstract:

American students are less interested in studying French than other foreign languages and question and language and culture's utility in their future professional lives. This tendency can be countered by broadening French courses to include French culture and the contribution France has made to the world in sciences, in commerce and in the integration of Europe. Block scheduling revisited

Article Abstract:

The effect of block scheduling on the teaching of French is discussed. Issues include the impact on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs, flexibility of the system, effect on the curriculum, coping with a hiatus in study, students' learning styles, the need for daily practice, faculty size, and standards and quality of instruction.
