Military coups and redemocratization in sub-Saharan Africa

Article Abstract:

Military coup activities during military rule starts redemocratization processes, while a coup during civilian rule leads to the establishment of military government. The political developments of sub-Saharan African countries exemplify the phenomenon. The rise of democratic sentiment within the military plays significant roles in the democratization of sub-Saharan countries. The political aspirations of the military can be shaped through constitutional and professional reforms strengthening the democracy. Findings of the study on sub-Saharan countries' military regime are discussed.

The effect of agricultural privatization on communist political legitimacy in Vietnam

Article Abstract:

This article examines Vietnam's agricultural policies. The author, maintaining collectivization of agriculture created a stagnate economy, argues Vietnamese farmers preferred the payoffs of privatization and considered collectivization as politically illegitimate, resisting the state's policies and ending collectivization.

Rethinking government economic activism in sub-Saharan Africa: some contending issues of the privatization strategy

Issues are presented concerning the level of government intervention in the economies of countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The inefficiency of government and the benefits of privatization are discussed.
