Colonial background to the development of autonomist tendencies in anglophone Cameroon, 1946-1961

Article Abstract:

Anglophone Cameroonians current push for a federal constitution is in keeping with their autonomist spirit demonstrated during British occupation. Cameroon, originally a German colony, was split by the British and French after seizing it from Germany. British efforts to annex their part of Cameroon to Nigeria were resisted ny Anglophone Cameroon. Francophone Cameroon's adoption of a Unionist Constitution has threatened Anglophone Cameroonians and has rekindled their autonomous urge.

The English-language press and the "Anglophone problem" in Cameroon: group identity, culture, and the politics of nostalgia

Article Abstract:

This article evaluates the English lanaguage newspapers and radio programs in Cameroon.
