The Aesthetic women: Re-forming female bodies and minds in early twentieth-century Keralam

Article Abstract:

A particular interesting chapter in the complex history of the project of gendering, through tracing the debates around female dress-reform in late nineteenth-early twentieth century Malayalee society is discussed. Criticism against the aestheticisation of the female body in Keralam continues to be made from leftist-radical circles and feminism, to rightist, conservative positions.

The environmental history of Tamil Nadu in the post-Independence era is analyzed with a view to highlighting the impact of post-colonial projects on the environment, particularly on forests and their tribal inhabitants.
