Recent legal developments in the government of the Italian electricity system

Article Abstract:

Changes in the government of the Italian electricity system are analyzed to understands its development which involves privatization and liberalization process achieved mainly by the European Community (EC) with Directive No. 96/92 and fully realized in a formal sense by Decree No. 79/1999. The purpose is to improve the efficiency and the satisfaction of the public interests by free-market synergies, properly regulated by the government, the antitrust rules and the Italian national regulatory authority (NRA).

Broadcasting, the free market and the public interest: is the Italian path to pluralism viable?

Article Abstract:

It is emphasized, in the context of the evolution of broadcasting in Italy, that general competition laws are not adequate to sufficiently protect the citizens' public interest in broadcasting as television is not a simple market commodity.
