Regional integration efforts and environmental problems in the Third World

Article Abstract:

Peace and prosperity can be achieved through regional integration, where all regional units are posting rapid economic growth while promoting inter-regional trade. The key to regional integration lies in sound fiscal and monetary policies of all member countries, a declining disparity between their per capita incomes, the recognition of a central organization within the region and coordination of the actions of all member nations. All members should also equally exert efforts toward environmental as well as economic development to achieve real and lasting peace and prosperity.

Government policy and human development: evidence from developing countries

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the expenditures of developing countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean was conducted to determine whether changes in government spending affects human development and welfare of citizens. Results showed that increases in government spending on public, merit and economics goods were positively correlated with growth in human development. However, the increases in human development differed from country to country, with the highest levels of growth being recorded in countries characterized as 'poorly performing.'

The splintered Caribbean in an integrated world: planning for the 21st Century

Article Abstract:

The conclusion of the North American Free Trade Agreement and the full implementation of the European Union has made it difficult for many Caribbean nations to compete in the international market. There is a growing realization among the Caribbean countries that integration is the only way to effectively compete in the market. To achieve integration, however, the Caribbean nations must overcome key national issues and strive to control the costs and duration of integration.
