Russia and the CIS in 2004: Putin's offensive and defensive actions

Article Abstract:

President Vladimir Putin started working on increasing terrorist attacks, one of the most serious issues domestically and internationally, ever since he joined his second term in Russia. However, his political initiatives of centralizing state power in the Kremlin was criticized domestically and in the West, as an attempt to strengthen his position in politics, thereby endangering democracy in Russia.

The politics behind Malaysia's eleventh general election

Article Abstract:

Abdullah Badawi administration won the Malaysian eleventh general elections, held in March 2004, very convincingly and with a huge mandate. However, a careful investigation into the politics surrounding the election saw emergence of several issues that affect Malaysian politics and would continue to pose more challenges to the new administration.

Brunei in 2004: Window-dressing an Islamizing sultanate

The principal events in the country of Brunei during the year 2004 were the wedding of the Crown Prince al-Muhtadee Billah and Dayangku Sarah, and the resurrection of the Legislative Council. Even though twenty years of Independence have witnessed significant progress in many fields, the political and religious freedom remains wanting.
