Transcending boundaries: Nishida Kitaro K'ang Yu-Wei, and the politics of unity

Article Abstract:

The works of two leading thinkers - Nishida Kitaro and K'ang Yu-Wei, each instrumental in the construction of 'transcending boundaries discourses' in China and Japan are evaluated. It is summarised that prima facie the political visions of Nishida and K'ang were compatible and it is only through a comparison of these thinkers, operating within distinct intellectual, cultural and political environments, that the contours of the discourse really becomes apparent.

Ideology and cosmology: Maoist discussion on physics and the Cultural Revolution

Article Abstract:

The Maoist interest in and the discussion on cosmology, and their link with the Cultural Revolution are analyzed and concluded in a historical narrative. It is shown in Maoist discussion that there is a complex relation between ideology, science and power in modern world history and that cosmological justification of political power is more important in the twentieth century.
