Taiwan's developmental strategy is an unprecedented method which utilizes government intervention in business as a tool for compensating for structural limitations and a lack of natural resources. The model aims to transform the country into an "omnidirectional" regional operations center. The method is a radical departure from strategies of its neighboring countries, including Japan's, which is considered to be the region's model for development.

The role of the United States Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) in the promotion of Balkan and Eastern Mediterranean exports

Article Abstract:

A study aimed at examining the effect of the US GSP on the exports of manufacturers of four East European and Mediterranean countries namely Romania, Turkey, Cyprus and former Yugoslavia, reveals some positive results. The program has helped Romania, Turkey and Cyprus achieve an export growth, while influencing Yugoslavia the least, despite being classified as a upper-middle-income country with considerable industrial capacity.
