A Burmese lady not for turning

Article Abstract:

Leader of the pro-democracy NLD opposition party in Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi, continuously confronts the repressive ruling military regime with courage and stoicism. Her father, Aung San, was a key figure in the history of Myanmar, securing the country's independence from Japan and the UK. He was assassinated when Suu Kyi was two-years-old. Her mother Khin Kyi was also politically active. Suu Kyi studied at Oxford University, UK, and married an Englishman. She returned to Myanmar in 1988 and was placed under house arrest for six years for her political endeavours. She has two children but is unable to have regular contact with them.

Taking the donkey-work out of recovery

Article Abstract:

The Wharf Meadow Centre in Tardebigge, UK, is pioneering a project using donkeys to assist with patient recovery. With a small grant from the North Worcestershire Health Authority, it can offer patients two free visits a week. Patients who suffer from coronary heart disease, agoraphobia, strokes, panic attacks and depressive disorders are encouraged to stroke the donkeys, talk to them and go for walks with them. The project is based on the known beneficial aspects of close contact with nature.

Eat the dead donkey

Article Abstract:

Mantua, Italy, is not an obvious tourist destination. Many of its art treasures have gone to other Italian cities, and its landscape is rather unattractive. However, Mantua has many interesting buildings. These include the medieval church of the Rotonda di San Lorenzo and the 14th century Castello di San Giorgio. It is particularly worth visiting the church of San Andrea, which was designed by Leon Battista Alberti in 1472.
