A McJob for every 14-year-old?

Article Abstract:

The UK government's new scheme for incorporating people as young as 14 into the workforce by allowing them to undertake part time work while still at school could have some benefits. It may help to ease the problem of the mismatch between the hierarchy of available jobs and the hierarchy of young people, and will move away from schemes which train young people for jobs which do not exist. The scheme will train young people for the discipline of a working life, but care must be taken to ensure that these young people also have all the education they require.

Here are the tools. Now, how do we change society?

Article Abstract:

There are a number of ways in which telecommunications and related technologies may instigate significant social and economic change in the UK. Inexpensive, reliable communications should create a more even balance between small and large companies, individuals and employers and small and large nations. There will be a shift in the balance of power between centres of information and users, and society's ability to promote order, if it wishes to do so, will be enhanced. Social barriers in the future will be cultural and intellectual, rather than physical.

The demise of Corporate Man

Article Abstract:

Young people seeking a career as a business executive have traditionally joined large companies, where there were more opportunities and rewards than could be found in medium-sized or small companies. However, more and more young people now do not want a career of this kind, and there are few opportunities available even for those who do. More are now joining smaller companies or are even setting up their own companies.
