A coalition in Scotland will ruin the Liberal Democrat dream in England

Article Abstract:

Developments in Scotland, where the Liberal Democrats are calling for the abolition of university tuition fees as a pre-condition for joining a coalition government with the Labour party, must make Prime Minister Tony Blair determined not to allow proportional representation to become more widely established than is absolutely necessary. The candidates to succeed Paddy Ashdown as Liberal Democrat leader are aware that true proportional representation will not be established in the near future. Indeed, proportional representation may only be revived as a key political issue when the Conservatives become serious challengers to Labour again.

Mr Blair has lots of problems - so here's my simple solution

Article Abstract:

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair currently faces significant challenges, including the peace process in Northern Ireland and the need for a Cabinet reshuffle. He must consider ways of rebalancing the government in areas where it has become, or could become, unstable or counter-productive. The ideal solution would be to appoint Peter Mandelson as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, with Mo Mowlam moving to Health and Frank Dobson becoming the official Labour candidate for Mayor of London, England.
