A fair crack of the whip

Article Abstract:

Composer and pianist Percy Grainger led an extremely unusual life. His music gained instant popular success, and some of his tunes are still very well known today, even if he is not instantly associated with them. However, he was much more than merely a popular musician. He experimented with whole-tone scales in his music from an early age, and showed great open-mindedness throughout the rest of his life. His music now seems set to undergo a revival in popularity. Chandos has recorded all his output, while a feature film based on his life will be released in 1999.
