A fair warning: journos, check your facts

Article Abstract:

The cases of US journalists Mike Barnicle, James Hirsch and Steven Glass, who were all dismissed for lying, should serve as a lesson to other journalists. The media is under greater scrutiny than ever, and traditional cultures in which a certain amount of fabrication was acceptable are vanishing. Journalists watch each other very closely, and are also regarded negatively by many ordinary people. It is likely that other journalists will be exposed.

Issues concerning the UK Press Complaints Commission's handling of a complaint from newsreader Anna Ford are discussed. It is argued that Ford could not expect privacy while on a public beach.
