Bush launches new space-based arms juggernaut

President George W. Bush has called for the replacement of the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty, stating that it is not suitable in the current political and technological climate. He has indicated that he will not proceed unilaterally with the proposed missile defence system.

A fireball in the sky at 13,000 ft - and 228 people plunged to their deaths

Article Abstract:

Members of the French club of Montoursville High School, aged 14-18, were among passengers who lost their lives in the Trans World Airlines (TWA) flight 800 from New York to Paris on July 17 1996, whilst there were a number of passengers who missed the plane because their connecting flight from Chicago was late. People in Paris who had intended to meet passengers, many of whom knew about the crash before they left home, arrived at the airport and were taken to meet counsellors and medical staff.

Aid force aims for the heart of darkness

Article Abstract:

There are now more than 1 million refugees in eastern Zaire, and it will prove very hard for the international humanitarian force which is now being created to deliver aid to refugees to find all refugee groups, as they are scattered over a very large area. The US is expected to contribute up to 5,000 troops to the operation, and will focus on securing the airport at Goma and supplying equipment and logistical support. It has emphasised the need for mission to assist the refugees to have a strictly defined goal.
