A modest proposal to censor the Internet

Article Abstract:

It is extremely difficult to censor the Internet, as there are 320 million Web pages and even the best search engines can only cover one-third of them. For this reason, the UK Association of Teachers and Lecturers is unlikely to be successful with its efforts to launch an Internet package with the facility to prevent access to pornographic or racially offensive sites. A better approach would be for the UK government to develop an alternative network available only to schools. This would contain the best material from the Internet relating to the curricula, and would be made faster than the Internet by running on dedicated computers.

Fusion: do we have the spark?

Article Abstract:

There has been extensive investment in research into fusion as a source of energy over recent decades. There is still strong political commitment to this sector, even though some scientists are sceptical about whether fusion will ever be a viable source of energy. Most recently, the planned 4 billion pounds sterling International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor has attracted mixed reactions, with theoretical research seeming to indicate that it will never operate successfully.
