A nation held hostage to history

Article Abstract:

Israel's military victory in 1967 has become a curse, ensuring that Israel is dominated by a militarized mentality and that there is continued friction between Israelis and Palestinians. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believes that friction with Arab states is inevitable and that Palestinians must be made to lower their expectations. However, there are no indications that Palestinian expectations are diminishing, and chronic instability is being created by the rival authority of the Palestinian Authority and Israel over the West Bank.

Clinton's visit seals destiny of Palestine

Article Abstract:

President Bill Clinton has become the first American President to enter territory ruled by Palestinians. In a historic development, he has stated that the Palestinian people are free to choose their own destiny in their own country. In return, the Palestinians have voted to revoke clauses in the Palestinian charter calling for Israel to be destroyed. This was a condition set by Israel before going ahead with its limited withdrawal from the West Bank. The Palestinians' decision was praised by Clinton.
