A positive view from the cockpit

Article Abstract:

There was considerable controversy when Charles Allen was appointed head of Granada in 1994, as he did not have a strong background in television broadcasting. However, he is now starting to be seen more positively. He strongly supports broadcasting companies making programmes, and is also looking for ways to boost advertising revenue. He sees considerable potential for moving into satellite television, but is less positive about digital terrestrial television in the UK.

Out of a crisis, drama

Article Abstract:

Critics have for some time been stating that the BBC has lost its ability to produce popular drama. However, there seems to have been a revival recently with the production of dramas including 'Common as Muck,' 'Roughnecks' and 'The Vet.' None of these dramas have been extremely successful, but they indicate that the BBC is now committed to popular drama again.
