A question of war: does the UN hold the key?

Article Abstract:

Any military action against Iraq involving UK forces would be fully based on international law, according to a spokesman for the Foreign Office. The Foreign Office feels that it is very desirable for the United Nations Security Council to give a strong signal to Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein regarding his conduct. An appropriate way of doing this would be through a Security Council Resolution. The precise justification for military action against Iraq would depend on the prevailing circumstances at that point.

Tories blame family values - opponents blame the Tories

Article Abstract:

Morality has recently become a key political issue in the UK, with politicians vying to be seen as defenders of moral and family values. They are also keen to distance themselves from any responsibility for falling moral standards. The debate about morality has been fuelled by Dr Jonathan Sacks, the Chief Rabbi, who has claimed that the UK is now suffering the ill-effects of the individualistic approach fostered by the governments of former prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

How the euro will straitjacket Britain

Article Abstract:

All European Union member states will eventually become bound up in a strict economic discipline, even if they do not join a single European currency, according to UK government sources. This follows the recent agreement at the European summit in Dublin, Ireland, on strict terms for a single currency. The summit's report emphasises that all member states have mutual interests and responsibilities in the area of monetary policy.
