Absolutely no Net profits

Article Abstract:

Users of the Internet can download a wide range of information and software into their own computer for no cost at all, and can use the system to send e-mail messages around the world for only the price of a local phone call. There is clearly still an element of idealism within Internet culture, with some people believing that all software should be available free of charge. However, users must be aware of hidden charges, as the cost of downloaded software, for example, is simply absorbed into user fees.

Europol is watching you

Article Abstract:

Some observers have expressed concern about the new European Police Office (Europol), believing that it could have a negative impact on civil liberties. It will be based on an advanced database holding personal information to be exchanged by the 15 member countries of the European Union, and will detail criminals, suspects and victims of crime. Critics fear that it could boost the circulation of false data and that there will be no opportunity to change incorrect information.

Have trolley, will travel

Article Abstract:

The extensive technology structures of the UK's largest supermarket chains will soon make it possible to buy a holiday in the supermarket. This would overcome the problems which can be associated with booking a holiday through a travel agent, allowing the customer direct access to the available information. There is also the possibility of establishing home-shopping holiday services.
