Out on the oil prospecting frontier, it's a struggle to stay clean, and green

Article Abstract:

Environmental organizations such as Greenpeace believe that the UK should not be undertaking oil exploration work on the edge of the Continental Shelf. They believe that oil and gas reserves which are already known will cause significant environmental damage, and feel that resources should be diverted to finding alternative sources of energy. In contrast, oil companies believe that this region has great potential. They emphasize that they are now giving much more attention to environmental protection.

Run-down, sprawling and decayed. Are our cities the worst in Europe?

Article Abstract:

It is now time to consider establishing compact, attractive urban areas in the UK where people are able to combine work and leisure activities, according to architect Lord Rogers of Riverside. He claims that the UK's cities, which the middle classes are deserting in large numbers, are the worst in Europe. The Urban Task Force, headed by Lord Rogers, has produced a report entitled 'Sharing the Vision' in which calls are made to take urgent action to prevent further urban degeneration in the UK.
