Adoption: who chooses Mum and Dad?

Article Abstract:

Most US states permit private advertising by those who wish to adopt. There are about 25,000 private adoptions of infants annually and a further 25,000 adoptions through agencies. Abortion is forbidden on religious grounds by many Americans. Parents have more choice with the non-bureaucratic system of private adoption. The birth-mother has ten days after the court statement of intent to change her mind. A social worker vets the adoptive parents and reports on them after a year. This costs 1,200 pounds sterling and the whole process can cost about 10,000 pounds sterling.

Engineer Alex Moulton has designed the New Series bicycle, which features variations of his own automotive inventions for the front and rear suspensions. The suspensions eliminate all vibrations, and the bicycle is also very balanced and aerodynamic. It uses extremely hi-tech components, and weighs only 23 lb. It was chosen by architect Sir Norman Foster when he was asked what object he would wish to take with him into the new Millennium.
