Cryptic crops

Article Abstract:

Crop circles have been attributed to a number of causes in the United Kingdom, including extraterrestrials and hoaxers. Some can only be seen properly from aircraft due to their large size. Lucy Pringle is researching these phenomena and sees crushed crops as a sign that a hoxer has been at work. They are especially common in the county of Wiltshire, England. Animals are said to be sensitive to crop circles and behave in odd ways when they are near them.

Across the Arctic by dog

Article Abstract:

It is vital to remain determined and focused if you have many obstacles to overcome, according to Wendy Smith, who has undertaken the first-ever dog-trek straight across the North American continent. She became extremely ill with Hodgkin's Disease in 1988, but was determined to make a full recovery and to show others that cancer can be overcome. She found the expedition very challenging, but was keen to show that any difficulty could be overcome.

Can the elvering go on for ever?

Article Abstract:

Spring used to bring elvers (baby eels) to Gloucestershire, England, villages as a treat to eat fried in bacon fat with an egg. Easter Monday eating contests were held on Frampton Green. Wholesalers now export elvers for breeding or restocking and now charge 20 pounds sterling a kilo. Licence-holders now have to display tags and fisherman crowd the bank of the Severn in cut-throat competition.
