The US and the UK have made attacks on Taliban military targets in Afghanistan with laser and satellite-guided bombs and Tomahawk missiles. This is the first state in 'Operation Enduring Freedom,' and was reported to have been very successful.

Allies seek bases for lightning strikes by elite forces

Article Abstract:

An allied military team is seeking to identify potential bases in former central Asian Soviet republics that can be used to launch attacks on Taiban and al-Qa'ida troops and back up the opposition Northern Alliance in Afghanistan. It is thought that the government of Tajikistan is shortly to reach an agreement on the use of three former Soviet airfields.
