All shook up in a midwife crisis

Article Abstract:

The case of former Royal College of Midwives Pres Caroline Flint, who has been found guilty of professional misconduct by a disciplinary committee over a breech birth in Nov 1995 in which the baby died from lack of oxygen, has served to revive controversy about natural birth. It is clear that mothers should be allowed to have as much control as possible over labour and birth. The best way for this to be achieved is for midwives and doctors to work harmoniously together, rather than midwives being marginalized by doctors or regarding doctors as enemies.
