Ambition can cost lives
Article Abstract:
There is growing pressure on students in the UK to obtain the highest exam grades as the business world becomes more competitive. Students know that they cannot necessarily expect to obtain secure employment, and are aware that exam grades will play a key role in gaining short-term contracts. Some students also feel that they should work very hard to gain a good degree in order not to disappoint their parents. Some universities have shifted to a modular approach or coursework, but this does not necessarily reduce stress.

The wrong sort of society
Article Abstract:
The hierarchical structures which characterise modern society can be extremely damaging, according to Richard Wilkinson, senior research fellow at the Trafford Centre for Medical Research at Sussex. High levels of inequality between rich and poor can lead to high death rates, while the fact that poor people lack control over their lives damages social cohesion and trust. Egalitarian social relationships are more important than the physical environment to a person's overall well-being.
