America finally gives black troops their due

Article Abstract:

Ceremonies to mark the 50th anniversary of the signing on Jul 26, 1948, by President Harry Truman of two executive orders forming the basis for the integration of the US armed forces have included awarding five black Americans the medals and rank to which they were entitled. These veterans were among more than 2,000 black soldiers who responded to a request for volunteers to fill combat ranks reduced in number by the Battle of the Bulge. After hostilities ended, they were returned to their old units, with their combat service and the rank they had achieved not being recognized.

Bomb gives Corsica taste of violence, Sicilian-style

Article Abstract:

The recent car bomb attack in Bastia, Corsica, has made Corsicans aware that they are not immune from the violence which characterises Sicily. There has been sporadic violence in Corsica for many years, but never a full scale attack in broad daylight. There are now considerable fears that there will be a revenge attack for the death of Pierre-Louis Lorenzi, a member of the political wing of the largest Corsican nationalist movement, who was killed in the bombing.
