America's aircraft giants slow to stalling speed

Article Abstract:

Boeing has announced plans for a further 7,000 redundancies, and has been experiencing problems with its new 777 wide-body jet. Fellow US aircraft manufacturer McDonnell Douglas is also in difficulties, and may have to suspend production of its 300-seat MD-11 jet for part of 1996 if no new orders are received. They have both been negatively affected by problems being experienced by airlines, on which they rely for business.
