An art class in action

Article Abstract:

There is no short-cut to painting effectively, according to painter Jeffery Camp, who has recently published a book entitled 'Paint: A Manual of Pictorial Thought and Practical Advice.' This contains 1,500 images which are extremely sophisticated and cover a very wide range of subjects and techniques. He has been involved in teaching for many years, and takes a traditionalist view of art education. This means that he has negative views about the current state of art schools.

A fine brush with violence

Article Abstract:

The Royal West of England Academy in Bristol, England, is currently staging a retrospective of the work of artist Maurice Cockrill. This exhibition covers works produced since the late 1980s. The first gallery is dominated by the 'Seasons' series of elliptical canvases. His latest series, 'Elements,' presents complex webs of different coloured lines evoking wateriness or fire. It is disappointing that the exhibition does not include the 'Entrances' series.

When the blast of war blows in our ears

Article Abstract:

Rage is generally portrayed very negatively nowadays, being connected with people who attack fellow motorists, for example. Expressing rage is seen as impolite and uncivilised, especially as it represents a loss of control. However, there are ways in which rage can actually be positive. Rage can have a very cathartic effect, and allows people to express their hurt and come to terms with things which happened in the past.
