An episode of low farce - and the highest tribute to American justice

Article Abstract:

It is possible to regard Paula Jones' sexual harassment suit against Bill Clinton as representative of a high point in the development of democracy in the US. Indeed, it can be seen as a victory for the rule of law. This is the first time ever that a sitting US President has been obliged to give sworn testimony as a defendant in a legal case. As such, the case indicates that the US legal system regards nobody as being above the law. Within US society, it is possible for everybody to seek to make more of their life.

Voters stop flirting with fiery right

Article Abstract:

The shift in political opinion in the US from radical Republicanism back towards the centre is likely to be reflected in the outcome of the forthcoming caucuses in Iowa. There is less willingness now to support extremists generally, and especially the Christian Coalition. This more moderate line will benefit Republican presidential candidates Steve Forbes and Bob Dole.

Seconds out ... he's back

Article Abstract:

Boxer Mike Tyson had an extremely deprived childhood, but was later to enjoy fame and wealth. He always had a brutal, arrogant side to his nature, and this was to lead to his imprisonment for rape. He is now to be released from prison, and some observers believe that he will be able to make a fresh start, shaking off the attitudes of his youth.
