And the brass band played on...

Article Abstract:

Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band is currently the top brass band in Yorkshire, England, where there is a long tradition of brass bands associated with mines and mills. Many of its members now live a considerable distance away, but they are strongly committed to attending rehearsals. The band declined to only six players in the mid-1980s, reflecting the closure of local mines, but has subsequently undergone a revival and is shortly to compete in the national brass band competition at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England.

So you want to be a Freemason

Article Abstract:

The UK's more than 7,600 Freemason lodges have become more open over recent years, but there is still a considerable amount of secrecy surrounding Freemasonry in general. Freemasonry has been the subject of some negative publicity, and few people in public office will admit to being a Freemason. Negative publicity has made it difficult to recruit new members, especially as social trends are also acting against Freemasonry.
