Anyone interested in a riot or two?

Article Abstract:

The UK government was careful to be seen to be taking decisive action following the riots which took place in the 1980s in places including Handsworth and Toxteth. However, the response to the most recent spate of riots has been very different. Media coverage has been much less extensive, and they are now simply seen as part of life in the UK. The cultural significance of rioting has changed, and the response to it is now verging on complacent.

A First Lady should respect the veil

Article Abstract:

The recent international women's conference in China has highlighted the varying ways in which feminism is viewed around the world. Feminism is a movement which developed in the western world, and can seem inappropriate in developing countries, where it is regarded as a form of imperialism. Women in developing countries resent being told that they should no longer accept customs which to western women seem to be humiliating to women.

We'd prefer the horse and no carriage

Article Abstract:

The UK government has recently taken steps to liberalise traditional marriage regulations, and couples are now allowed to marry in 'approved places.' At the same time, taxes on married couples were also raised, thus indicating a lack of coherence and direction in the government's policy on marriage. The government will only really encourage more couples to marry if it completely deregulates civil marriage ceremonies.
