Time Whitehall got its hand dirty

Article Abstract:

The UK government is encouraging the creation of partnership enterprises between business and public bodies, believing that the public sector's physical and intellectual assets must be used more effectively. The government may seek to earn income from the release of some of its databases and internal know-how. The National Health Service, for example, could sell drug companies generic clinical information, while the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Agency could use its customer list in an anonymized form.

Charity should begin at home

Article Abstract:

Many voluntary organisations are seeking the help of outside managers with business experience as competition in the sector becomes fiercer. However, outside managers can often clash with the culture of the voluntary sector, and these organisations may do better to seek management talent in-house. People who are used to working in the voluntary sector will have the additional flexibility which is often required.

More cuts mean more accountants

Article Abstract:

Public sector accountants currently have better employment prospects than their colleagues in the private sector, as there are many opportunities within the health service, government departments and Next Step agencies. Growing competition in the government sector will boost demand for accountants, and more jobs will be created as more services come up for tendering.
