Are you brave enough to blow the whistle?

Article Abstract:

People are brought up to believe that informing on others is disloyal, but there have been cases where early information could have avoided crises and saved lives, and cases where those who have made disclosures have suffered as a consequence. If information had been disclosed, the Herald of Free Enterprise might not have sunk and Barings Bank and BCCI might not have failed. Stuart Stradling, finance director of Wickes, UK do-it-yourself group, informed on fraud within the group and was made responsible for causing harm to the company's image.

Queen of hearts meets the heart of darkness

Article Abstract:

The recent visit by the Princess of Wales to Angola, where she met victims of land-mines, highlights the success of a group of small charities in gaining support of high profile public figures for the fight to have land-mines banned. A ban is now supported by 50 governments, but the UK government has so far failed to make a commitment, despite strong pressure in various forms. Other successful publicity has included a film by Lord Attenborough, 'In Love and War,' in aid of the Red Cross anti-mine campaign.
